Ever since a sophomore in high school, the stage has beckoned Rachel Hedman. She competed in storytelling through Forensics--public-speaking contests--and by her senior year received 5th place at the Wisconsin State Tournament. When she entered college, she saw storytelling as a possible career and chose her major accordingly: Communications Marketing. Meanwhile, she jumpstarted the Brigham Young University Storytelling Club in 1997. She performed on the National Youth Storytelling Olympics Board from 2002 to 2004. She is the 1st recipient of the J.J. Reneaux Mentorship Grant in which she was mentored by national storyteller Don Doyle. Rachel started her Storytelling Master's Program at East Tennessee State University in June 2006. She now serves as Co-Chair for the Youth, Educators, and Storytellers Alliance on a national level--the youngest to ever hold that position. She is spearheading the approval of the Boy Scouts of America storytelling merit badge.
