I enjoyed hearing the podcast with Cynthia, Charolett, and family. Cynthia and her sisters had so many good examples of how to use song, chants and rhymes. I agree that by having the characters sing the songs singing is less intimidating. I learned that songs can help transition to a new story.

i agree with Cynthia that rythms are a strong way to connect to children. I dont often tell to little children but even when i tell to big children and adults, and have the beat of the storie, it makes the story very alive.
i have a group of children that i teach drama and storytelling, we have very big fun to introduce in the conversations and in telling stories ,songs, it doesnt matter what the song is, we even invent songs, but the beat and the rythm bring the vitality and joy in the work

I agree that the art of music is educational not only for story telling but also for teaching children various subjects in school such as Math, Science, English and Spanish to name a few. I recently ran accross this teacher in Los Angeles, CA that has developed several lesson plans for elementary children. I was pleased when I checked out his website www.songsthatteach.org. I ordered a cd and dvd bundle to share with my 2nd grade class and they loved it.
